Chef Ken’s Corner: Finding Balance

posted in: Chef's Corner | 0

As I sit down to write this month’s newsletter, it’s the Fourth of July weekend. My wife and I decided it was time to step away from our daily routines and spend a few days in the beautiful mountain village of Leavenworth, Washington. There wasn’t a long list of activities or a packed itinerary—just a chance to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and simply be together.

Like many of you, I can easily get caught up in the daily grind. Between planning menus, shopping, cooking, deliveries, and running a business, it’s easy to keep saying, “I’ll slow down next week.” Before long, weeks become months, and we realize we’ve forgotten to take care of ourselves.

As a nutrition and wellness consultant, I often talk about balance when it comes to food, but balance extends far beyond what’s on our plates. It also means making time for our health, our relationships, our hobbies, and the moments that help us recharge. Those moments don’t have to be extravagant. Sometimes it’s a walk along a river, sharing a quiet cup of coffee with someone you love, or simply putting your phone away for an afternoon.

I’ve learned that taking time to recharge isn’t a luxury—it’s an investment. When we care for ourselves, we have more energy, more patience, and more joy to share with those around us.

I hope you’re finding opportunities this summer to enjoy the longer days, reconnect with family and friends, and create a little balance in your own life. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and relaxing summer.

Warm regards,

Chef Ken McNamee
